Introduction
- Established in June 2000, the Division of Medical Engineering Research (DMER) aims to maintain high standards in its research, conduct interdisciplinary and multi-institutional research collaboration, promote the medical engineering industry in Taiwan with product-oriented research and development, and would also like to become government’s think tank for healthcare policy making.
- The division focuses primarily on four medical engineering research areas: (I) Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering, (II) Biomechanics, (III) Medical Imaging, and (IV) Biophotonics & Bioelectronics. While the division has continued to maintain its productive and award-winning research program in biomechanics and biophotonics, biomedical imaging has gradually become its main target, resulting in two integrated research programs: interventional MRI and multi-modality molecular imaging platforms. Whenever applicable, research findings and results are followed through with technology transfers, patent applications, and the development of new medical products.
Mission
- To strive for a high academic research standard in the above research areas through continued recruitment of talent research scientists and international collaborations.
- To promote multi-disciplinary and multi-institute integrated projects, soliciting necessary collaboration among experts in basic research, clinical research and product development.
- MED has chartered itself since inception with the mission of helping build a significant medical engineering industry in Taiwan with global market presence, by linking the medical profession with the excellent foundation of Taiwan's IT industry.
